I borrowed the Electrostar’s interwoven geometric patterns from a motif found in Arabic architecture. This motif uses geometric shapes that tessellate perfectly, create an patterns that are both symmetrical and translated radially, meaning that the pattern is identical when rotated 90 degrees. this pattern can also be repeated infinitely on a 2 dimensional plane In my sketchbook I actually transferred an image from a door of an old mosque in Egypt, and built the figure around some of the geometric shapes. But the perfect tessellations are compromised when the pattern is wrapped around the body, and in getting some of the silver lines to line up, I had to adjust some shapes. These compromises remind me of taking any ideal or theoretical system and trying to adapt it for people.
